Peabody Hotel's Original Duckmaster
This Sunday, August 26, is Edward Pembroke Day, as proclaimed by the City of Memphis in 1994. Edward Pembroke was the original Peabody Duckmaster and created the March of the Peabody Ducks as we know it today. A former circus animal trainer when he arrived at The Peabody Memphis in 1940, Mr. Pembroke took it upon himself to train the hotel's resident ducks to march on a red carpet to the tune of John Philip Sousa's "King Cotton March" -- thus earning the title Duckmaster, a position he held for 50 years.
